If you run an installer under a certain user account you can not expect that the installer magically knows that you actually want to install under an other account. The other issue is the elevated permissions thing I mentioned in previous response. If this is the case it could be considered as a bug that Notepad++ silently does nothing instead of showing an appropriate error said: If the user imports a new theme, then fair enough put it in there profile.ĭid you already follow my advice to copy the Notepad++ folder from one user profile to the other? Maybe the absence of this folder prevented Notepad++ from importing your theme. Furthermore it wouldn’t be possible to have user specific said:

If the theme files would be stored in the installation folder of Notepad++ this wouldn’t be possible because this folder is write protected for normal Windows users. This would be a bad idea because themes are intended to be changed by Notepad++ users. Surely it should put them in the same places as Notepad++ itself. Why does the installer put the default theme files it comes with in the users profile who installs it? Before the accounts change when I just had to press OK at the UAC prompt it worked you might expected after the permissions said: That is if I have a file open that’s in a protected area and so Notepad++ prompts for elevated permissions when I try to save, after entering admin details at UAC prompt, Notepad++ reopens as admin but the file is no longer open, presumably because it’s effectively running as a different user. I mention the above because there’s already an issue I came across on my old machine when switching to that account set-up. So perhaps there is some issue there with regards to installation?

However due to toughening up measures, my account no longer has admin, instead I have a separate admin account so on the UAC prompt I have to enter username/password. On my old work machine when Notepad++ was first installed my account had admin access so I just needed to press OK on the UAC prompt when installing. As indicated this is on my new work machine, so it’s joined to a domain. To add some further info that might help someone point me in to a resolution.

Perhaps if there is a non-aggressive person in this community that has any advice on what the issue might be and how to resolve that would be much appreciated. So maybe I’m not “overreacting” as you put it. In Settings > Style Configurator… the Select theme drop down only has 1 option in it “Default (stylers.xml)” so there is no temporary option. If you have any doubts related to this, let us know in the comment box below.Sumner - oh look an overly aggressive it’s working for me thus there cannot possible be a problem for any one response. I hope this article helped you! Please share it with your friends also. The new Notepad app looks interesting and unique, but it’s only available on the Dev channel build.
